We started the day bright and early (5:20am!) at the Columbus airport. Our flights went smoothly and we made it to Charlotte without losing anyone! During the flight from Charlotte to Nassau clouds and rain gave way to sunshine, and those of us lucky enough to have window seats were able to enjoy a breathtaking view of some of the northern islands of The Bahamas on our approach to Nassau. We had a chance to observe from the air what we had learned in class about the Bahamas Platform and the varying ocean depths between islands. We flew over the Little Bahamas Bank, which includes the most northern Bahamian Islands, and saw evidence of the deepening waters in the color change of the water from turquoise to a deep blue as we approached Nassau, which is on the edge of the Grand Bahama Bank.
After making it through customs and grabbing our bags (they all made it!) we enjoyed a fun bus ride to our beautiful hotel on the coast. We enjoyed a relaxing afternoon, a traditional Bahamian dinner. We are all looking forward to heading to San Salvador Island tomorrow!
It snowed here last night. It's great to see San Salvador sun! Hope the bags finally arrived. Enjoy all!
